Meadow FFA Tractor Tech Team competed at the Area 2 Contest on January 15th. This contest was a state qualifying event. The team placed 4th overall in a very tight competition and was only 20 points away from moving on to state.
In this three part competition, team members appraise components and parts of tractors and agricultural implements and make recommendations for services needed and not needed, complete a written exam and finally the team of three members, working as a group, will compete in locating and correcting five deliberately placed malfunctions in diesel fueled tractors and safely navigate the repaired tractor through a driving course within the 25 minute time limit.
The components and written exam portions are done as individuals and Niko Castaneda placed 5th, Brady Parker placed 6th, and Josiah Rodriguez placed 8th. This was a really strong start for a new team and program. The team members enjoyed the learning experience and are looking forward to improving and competing next year.

Parents,
Please be aware that Texas Education Code requires students to attend 90% of the days a course is offered to be awarded credit for the course and/or to be promoted to the next grade. This requirement remains in force during the 2020-21 school year. This requirement applies to both face-to-face and remote/virtual instruction. MISD students with more than four absences or six tardies may be assigned Monday Makeup School. Students assigned to Monday Makeup School will be required to complete four hours of work from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. The Makeup School will be scheduled each month. It is important that your virtual student is logging on and working every day. It is important that you call the office if your face-to-face student is absent and that they check in with their teachers via their Meadow Schools email account or Google Classroom each day they are absent. Thank you.

Meadow FCCLA held its first membership recruitment meeting, today, Wednesday, September 2nd during Bronco period. Prospective members filled out membership applications, learned about opportunities and membership benefits, fundraising for dues, and dress code for region and state competitions. Students were given parent letters to take home with them so that they can talk with their parents about joining FCCLA this year. It's a great day to be a Meadow FCCLA Bronco!

The lastest commissioners' update informed all school districts they must continue instruction till the end of their original school calendar. Meadow ISD's last instructional day will be Wednesday, May 20th.

I wanted to update Bronco Nation on graduation plans. The latest governor address has forced us to make changes to our graduation plan. Terry county falls into June 1st as the earliest legal date we can have a ceremony outside. Those plans are being worked out and we will inform everyone as soon as we can.

The governors announcement yesterday will alter our graduation plans significantly. We will not be able to have a ceremony until after June 1st. Our planning committee will be meeting and plans will be shared once a new plan is in place

School Plans:
“Following on Governor Abbott’s Executive Order on schools issued this afternoon, it is important to note that while the Governor’s decision continues the closure of school buildings for in-person classroom attendance for the duration of the 2019-20 school year, it in no way ends at-home instructional support for Texas’s millions of students.”
“School districts across Texas have worked diligently to make the transition to virtual learning. Students must continue to receive daily academic support from their teachers and schools for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.”
Therefore, Meadow ISD will continue the on-line instruction per the commissioner’s guidance.
Graduation Plans:
A graduation planning committee is being formed to create something special for our graduates
Summer Programs:
Evaluation process is ongoing to determine if we will have any type of summer school
Grades:
With all the changes Texas schools are experiencing with COVID-19, the Texas Education Agency has given districts the flexibility to continue providing you with information on your student’s academic performance. Districts have the authority to determine how they will provide this notice to parents for the remainder of the school year.
Texas Education Code, 28.022(a)(2) requires school districts, at least once every 12 weeks, to give written notice to a parent of a student’s performance in each class or subject. Texas Education Code, 28.022(a)(3) requires districts to, at least once every three weeks, give written notice to a parent or legal guardian of a student’s performance in a foundation subject if the student’s performance in the subject is consistently unsatisfactory.
Since we are adjusting to distance learning, we would like to share with you how we will be going forward with grades. Due to the interruption during the 5th Six-Weeks, we will not be mailing out report cards for this six-weeks. However, we will be mailing a 3-week Progress Report on Monday, April 27th. For the end of the year, we will have one final Report Card mailed out on Thursday, May 28th. The average will not affect a student’s GPA.
For a student’s GPA, the district will utilize the previously recorded 1st Semester Average and the 2nd Semester Average. The 2nd Semester will be determined by the 4th Six weeks grade. (Note Dual Credit High School Grades will be factored into final GPA)
Grades for on-line instruction need to be recorded as:
PASS: Students showed effort and completed the
work toward the content-specific daily/weekly
activities
INCOMPLETE:
Student is not showing progress toward
accomplishing the learning provided in
content specific daily/weekly activities.
Student made little or no effort to complete
work, after several contacts from teacher
Thank you for ensuring our students are completing all their assignments, as teachers are actively monitoring student performance and questions. Our goal is to have all students meet their proficiency levels for this year in order to ensure they are prepared to be academically successful moving into the next school year. We are all in this together, and we look forward to continuing working closely with you during this time. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about these grades. If you or your student need assistance with remote learning or technology, please contact the campus principals.

We will begin the process of allowing students to come to school and pick-up their belongings. Here is the schedule: 4/22 from 9 to noon will be 6th and 7th grade. 4/22 from 1-4 pm will be 8th and 9th. 4/23 from 9-noon will be 10th and 11th. 4/23 from 1-4 pm will be the 12th grade. Teachers will also be on campus at various times so you will be able to get folders from classrooms. Coaches will be able to get you in the locker rooms. Mrs. Fleming will be here taking temperatures before you can enter the building and please try your best to stay 6 feet apart. We'll see you starting Wednesday.

Junior High students will need to login to Edgenuity to access assignments. High School students will use Study Island for most of their classes. The links to these two programs are on the Meadow ISD website under the Parent/Student tab. It is my belief that most if not all students will remember their Google login information, but the two electronic platforms may be an issue. Please email me if your child can't get online and I will get a generic password for them. bric.turner@meadowisd.net if you have any questions. Thank you and let us know if you need anything.

Bronco Nation by order of the Governor of Texas schools are to remain closed until March 4th. Therefore, we will continue with on-line educational plan that we currently have in place. This also means that any school activity during this time will be cancelled. We follow this order because of our dedication to eliminating this COVID-19 health crisis. Make no mistake Meadow ISD faculty and staff want to work with kids. We have dedicated our livelihoods to serving the students in Region 17. I can’t express enough how much we miss our students and can’t wait to see them again. Unfortunately, this is not possible. Our Football Stadium Lights will continue to be turn on nightly as a symbol of dedication to our students. To all our students and parents “We Miss You and Want Each of You to Be Safe and Healthy.

COVID-19 Update
Bronco Nation,
I hope things are going as well as possible under the circumstances. The news that broke yesterday about one of our employees having a positive test caught us all by surprise. To my knowledge we don’t have any other employees or students that are showing symptoms of having COVID-19. If that status changes with any students or staff please contact me immediately so we can take appropriate action.
Many things are changing hourly with more and more data coming in from around the state. We will do our best to keep you up to date with messages and possibly video links. In the meantime, I would like to give an updated timetable on prep for instruction and delivery of instruction.
Currently there is a tremendous amount of planning going on behind the scenes
The meal curbside service will begin again Monday, March 30
Campus principals will be coordinating with families in need of devices and personal items from campus starting on March 30
Lesson prep will begin next week once teachers are able to get materials from their rooms
Our on-line platforms should be operational by the end of next week but will truly get started on April 6
For those that need school devices we are planning for one per household at this point
I realize all of you may have questions and concerns. To ease your minds please just give me a call and I will share everything I can. (My cell number is 254-631-2025) Please hang in there and take care of our kids. We will be constantly sending updates as things change. Even through this situation it is always Great To Be A Bronco!

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO PARENTS AND STAFF:
Meadow ISD administration was informed this morning, March 23rd, that one of its employees has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. Although the employee has not been physically present on school grounds since Friday, March 13th, I have determined to close all activity at the school for the next seven days for the safety of our employees and students. This time will allow for anyone exposed to the virus to determine whether they are symptomatic and to seek the advice and care of their healthcare professionals. Consequently, unless directed otherwise by the superintendent of schools, no staff, students, or parents should come to the school for any reason until Monday, March 30, 2020.
The District has contacted local health officials regarding this confirmed test, and they advise Due to the small size of our campus, everyone on school grounds during the week of March 9th should monitor themselves and their family members for symptoms of the virus and consider self-quarantine. More information regarding how the COVID-19 virus spreads and its symptoms may be found on the CDC’s website located at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/index.html.
The District is currently assessing the revised timetable for instructing its staff in distance learning techniques and for the delivery of remote instruction. At a minimum, teacher training, student remote instruction, and meal services will be postponed for one week. The superintendent will communicate with parents and staff through the District’s Thrillshare App and the District’s website should this period need to be extended and to provide ongoing information as it becomes available. Please make it part of your routine to check the website and the App frequently for additional information.

Bronco Nation
Im currently in a Regional Wide Superintendents meeting. A community and staff update will be coming this evening.
Darrian Dover

Meadow ISD will be closed starting March 23, 2020 through April 1, 2020 to support our community and health care professionals in the ongoing goal of containing the spread of the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19. Additionally, all extracurricular activities, practices and athletic events are suspended while we are closed.
We do not make this decision lightly. We fully realize it presents significant difficulties to working parents. However, we are hopeful that these measures will better ensure the long-term health and safety of children, staff, and the larger community.
Meadow ISD is finalizing logistics on distance learning options and the distribution of food to address children’s nutritional needs while school is out. More information and guidance will be made available as soon as possible. We will also take this week to further clean schools and buses and restock custodial and nursing supplies.
Additionally, Meadow ISD asks the broader community to take the following reasonable precautions to prevent the spread of the illness:
• Don’t shake hands
• Wash your hands regularly
• Limit movement within the community, especially avoiding crowded placed and maintaining 3 to 6 ft of distance between people (at least an arm’s length)
• If you are moving around in the community, don’t congregate in large groups
• For those who have traveled to areas with known COVID-19 cases – both inside and outside of the country – we ask that you self-quarantine and monitor for symptoms. Students who have traveled should plan to stay home for two weeks after arriving home. Please contact your campus to let them know, and this will be considered an excused absence.
• If you suspect you have symptoms of COVID-19, call your health care provider for medical advice .
• Keep your child at home if he/she feels ill, even if you think it is just a cold.
• Do not leave the house if you are ill, except to access medical care
This is a quickly changing situation, and we will continue to monitor information, will assess conditions throughout the week, and will provide the next update as plans are confirmed via our website, email, and social platforms.
Thank you for your support and cooperation as we ensure that all members of the community in Meadow ISD stay safe and healthy.

Community Memo
COVID-19 virus has caused many cancellations and changes to many school activities. We are being advised to monitor the situation within our areas and make choices which would reduce large gatherings. The following has already been announced by TEA and UIL:
• All UIL activities have been suspended from March 16th through March 30th
o This affects:
Bi-District OAP
HS District Literary
Golf Tournaments
Track Meets
• Testing Changes
o The 5th Grade and 8th Grade First Administration Date will be postponed
Many more activities are more than likely going to be affected by this situation. We will keep the public informed as decisions are made. Please keep in mind that Meadow ISD will make decisions based on what is safe for our students. I want to thank you in advance for your understanding and patience with this matter.

Reminder that Meadow ISD will Early Release for Spring Break tomorrow March 13 at 12:30 pm with buses running at 12:35 pm. Enjoy your Spring Break!

Meadow ISD, the Texas Education Agency, the Texas Department of State Health Services, and the CDC are monitoring the spread of the Coronavirus Disease. Health officials believe the risk to our school community is low at this time. Please feel free to visit the DSHS website for up to date information on this disease and how to prevent the spread of germs. You can access the website at:
https://dshs.texas.gov/coronavirus
Our staff members are working carefully to encourage simple and effective habits of frequent hand washing, covering every cough/sneeze, and cleaning classroom tables/surfaces frequently. This is important not just to help prevent the spread of coronavirus, but to help prevent the spread of other infections (common cold, flu, strep) that can lead to illness and absences.
Meadow ISD will continue to monitor and follow the recommendations of the TEA, Department of State Health Services, and the CDC.
Thank you for your support of our district, staff, and students.

MISD needs your help. Our current drop off and pick up procedure in front of the elementary is causing a concern. We will have the sidewalk curb clear from the administration area to the gym. You may park on the sidewalk area if you are getting out of the vehicle. Please leave the closest lane to the sidewalk open. Meaning, there should not be any parked/stalled vehicles on that lane. This will allow room for people to pull out and open a spot. The drop off lane will be the outer one. With your help we can make this a safer process. Thank you!

The fact that you were nominated speaks for itself. The website has links to sample letters that you can write to potential sponsors. Also, there is a scholarship application but it is only for $100 and will require several things including some financial paperwork from the school.
